The term TOEIC stands for “Test of English for International Communication”
Each year, more than 5 million people from 150 countries took part in TOEIC test; over ten thousand international companies and organizations worldwide recognize TOEIC’s standard. The reason that TOEIC became the worlds top professional English proficiency test is due to the fact that its test scores reflect the participant’s ability to communicate in English with others in a workplace environment.
In countries such as China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, many companies in international trade and technology industries set TEOIC score 550 or higher as an entry standard for candidates seeking employment. Job seekers with lower score would automatically be disqualified and not be considered as potential employee, regardless of their professional qualifications.
In order to achieve a high score in TOEIC test, it is not necessary to answer every question. Instead, the participant should adopt the following logic:
To master the fundamental question such as ‘Incomplete Sentence’;
To answer the medium questions to your best ability; and
To challenge the most difficult category questions.
In 2006, TOEIC changed their test content into Listening and Reading. The test is 2 hours long, 45 minutes for Listening and 75 minutes for Reading. The Reading session consists of one hundred questions and occupies over 60% of total score.
Therefore, answering question quickly and correctly is essential. To do so, the participant needs to become familiar to all types of TOEIC questions, acquire sufficient reading skill and able to identify what the question is asking.
